Dive Site Overview

Originally named Zolotets, the Constandis began its life as a Soviet-built trawler in 1989. After a brief period operating in international waters in the eastern Mediterranean under Cypriot registration from 1997, it was intentionally sunk in 2014 as part of the Underwater Sea Park Limassol.

Resting at a maximum depth of 24 m (79 ft), the wreck is considered safely accessible for certified divers. Sharing its protected status with the nearby Lady Thetis, this vessel helps enhance the marine environment off the coast of Limassol. Many points of interest exist throughout its structure, allowing for diverse exploration.

Its intact form includes the bridge, stairwells, and multiple decks, all inviting a closer look. For appropriately trained wreck divers, interior access is possible into areas like the engine room and storerooms, providing a more complex experience.

Observations can include the high mast and propeller area. Purposeful sinking demonstrates how new, biodiverse underwater habitats can be effectively created here.

During these months, the water temperature averages between 19-29°C (66-84°F), creating a comfortable environment for extended dives. Air temperatures during this peak season range from approximately 19°C (66°F) in April to a peak of around 30°C (86°F) in July and August, ensuring pleasant surface conditions. Rainfall is minimal during the primary diving period, often dropping to almost negligible amounts in the summer months, which contributes to generally stable surface conditions. Dive Experience & Conditions

A dive on the Constandis offers a journey through an intentionally sunk vessel, with conditions generally favoring a relaxed exploration. Visibility around the wreck typically ranges from 10-20 m (33-66 ft), often averaging around 15 m (49 ft), allowing for good views of the entire ship and its surrounding marine life. Currents are usually limited and considered mild, contributing to the site's classification as difficulty level 1, making it manageable for advanced recreational divers. Divers can explore the vessel's exterior, noting the various decks, the intact mast, and the propeller. For those with appropriate wreck diving certifications, the Constandis also provides several swim-throughs into shallower sections like the bridge and various doorways. Its depths vary from a minimum of 15 m (49 ft) to a maximum of 23 m (75 ft) across different parts of the structure, allowing for a comprehensive, multi-level dive profile.

Dive Difficulty & Safety Guidelines

Approaching the Constandis wreck demands adherence to specialized diving protocols, particularly for any planned interior exploration. While the wreck is safely accessible, penetration of hatches, stairwells, and other internal areas is strictly reserved for certified wreck divers. Untrained divers should remain on the exterior of the vessel to ensure safety. Navigational awareness is important. As the site can attract pleasure boats, divers must maintain proper surfacing procedures, including deployment of an SMB. Although currents are generally mild, conditions can vary; always assess the situation on arrival. Experienced divers with adequate training will find the site straightforward, but always dive within your certification limits and with a buddy.
